Call for entries — Members SPACe Show
LA vETA — Artists who are members of SPACe are encouraged to enter the 2020 Members’ Show. Membership is $30 per year, and may be paid when entering the show. This show is an opportunity for artists to show works that might be new or different styles or media for the artist. Artwork in this show may also be entered in one other SPACe show during the year. The usual $5 entry fee applies per piece, with a limit of 4 pieces per artist. ($10 for artwork more than 30” wide.) Bring artwork Thursday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or Saturday, Feb. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The reception will be Saturday, Feb. 15, 5 – 7 p.m.

“The Heart of Pakistan” at La Veta Public Library
LA vETA — The La Veta Library is pleased to have our own librarian, Rachel Locke Dillon, as your program presenter Thursday, Feb. 6, 2 p.m.. Rachel will share information about her
experience traveling to northern Pakistan where she taught English as a 2nd language and her continuing work with the Shining Light International organization. She will share stories and photos of this beautiful, rugged land where she was treated with hospitality and kindness, yet saddened by the lack of education and extreme poverty. WALSENBURG — A free legal clinic for parties who have no attorney, will be featured from 4 to 5 pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Spanish Peaks Library, 415 Walsen Avenue. The next clinic will be Tuesday, Feb. 11. By computer link, volunteer attorneys will answer questions, help fill out forms, and explain the process and procedure for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims, veterans issues, and civil protection orders. FCPA Show Choir “Westward Ho” show

LA vETA — The La Veta Library will once again be hosting their annual Two Peaks/One Book Community Book read, with the goal of bringing our area together through a great work of literature. This year’s theme is “ethics and civility” and the book we have chosen is the New York Time’s Best Seller, “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. It is the beautifully written story of Count Alexander Rostov who is stripped of his title and life of luxury and sentenced to house arrest in a small attic room at the Metropol Hotel. The book is rich in history, humor, intrigue and how one man made the most of a difficult situation and entered into a world of joy and emotional discovery. La Veta Creative District logo contest
LA vETA — The La Veta Creative District is looking for a visual identity in the form of a logo design. Designs for the logo may be submitted through Friday, Feb. 28 to Kenny Schneider by email at kenetics@centurytel.net. Submissions will be judged by the LVCD staff and the winning designer’s logo will appear on printed materials, social media, and other items, such as T-shirts.
The winning logo will promote the mission of the LVCD, which is “To inspire and cultivate our diverse rural community through the development of the arts and creative industries”. Any colors may be used, however, it should also look good in black & white. For more information contact Kenny.

WALSENBURG — The Spanish Peaks HealthCare Foundation’s 2020 Wine Tasting Event will be held Saturday, Feb. 29, 7 to 10 p.m. at Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, 23500 US Highway 160.

State of the City Address
TRINIDAD — Phil Rico, Mayor of the City of Trinidad will be giving the annual State of the City address Thursday, February 6, 6 p.m. at Trinidad State Junior College in the Pioneer Room. The Mayor would like to invite the public to attend the event. In the State of the City address the Mayor will reflect on recent successes that have laid the groundwork for the City’s upcoming priorities. He will speak to the goals of the City Council in 2020, identifying the City’s most challenging issues and the City’s greatest assets. The Mayor will also be making several exciting announcements of new programs and possibilities that he and the City Council will be working toward this year. Following the address, the Mayor and City Council members will be taking questions from those present. The event will be aired the following day on YouTube at Trinidad Times TV 71. Hands on History at THM
TRINIDAD — Hands on History (HOH) at Trinidad History Museum is for kids in 1 through 8 grades and runs each Friday, 1 to 4 p.m.. The cost for the class is $9 per week. (Scholarships available for free/reduced lunch, or multiple sibling enrollment)

PUEBLO — The Pueblo County Beekeepers Association in partnership with CSU Extension will be hosting the BEE CU- RIOUS – An Adventure in Beekeeping Series. The two events will appeal to new beekeepers, experienced beekeepers, and gardeners as they navigate the best practices for sustainable beekeeping.
BEE CURIOUS SCHOOL: The two day comprehensive courses in Beekeeping for Newbies will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Colorado State Fair Creative Arts Building, 1001 Beulah Avenue. It is recommended to take the school if you are new to the beekeeping hobby.
