OUR WORLD – In February, Philosophy Café meets remotely on Monday evening, February 14th, at 5:00.

Café founder, Susanne, thought it would be a good chance to throw in some existentialist thought. She is reading Paul Tillich’s, The Courage to Be. According to Tillich, one major source of existential anxiety is change, especially that big, big change we will all go through—death. Tillich believed the antidote to such anxiety is courage, in this case, the courage to allow life to change us.

Parks and Trails volunteer opportunities

WALSENBURG – Dustin Stambaugh, Walsenburg City Administrator, and Brad Rice, Walsenburg Parks Manager, have asked La Veta Trails to co-host two clean-up opportunities in Walsenburg this spring. La Veta Trails is thrilled to support these clean-up events.
We will host a Walsenburg Volunteer Sign-up Event in the next 2-3 weeks. Volunteers will be required to fill out a Volunteer Form and sign a liability waiver. Walsenburg Fox Weekend movie

WALSENBURG – Our weekend movie is “Spiderman: No Way Home,” rated PG-13. With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

New hours at SPACe

LA VETA — The Spanish Peaks Arts Council (SPACe) in La Veta has changed the days and hours the SPACe Gallery is open. During January, SPACe is only open on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Beginning Feb. 3, the gallery will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Artwork for the annual Members’ Show will be accepted at that time. LA VETA — Join us at La Veta Library on Thursday, Jan. 27th at 2 p.m. for a “movie date”. For our first offering of the new year we will feature “Stillwater” starring Matt Damon. Variety magazine called this dramatic thriller “incredible and absolutely brilliant”. It is the story of an oil rig roughneck from Oklahoma who travels to France to exonerate his daughter who is serving a life sentence in jail for a murder she did not commit. Great performances and a timely topic make for great entertainment. Free refreshments!

WALSENBURG – You currently live a meager mundane life but often dream of becoming an adventurer. The day is waning and dusk is upon you. You are torn from your daydreams, hearing sound of people screaming, buildings burning, and the sounds of people running past you. “The Dragovar Empire is upon us!’
The Dragovar Empire is an empire to the North with which your kingdom of Moldavia is currently at war. They are an empire ruled by a council of chromatic dragons that command thousands of Dragonborn troops. You find yourself running away from the sounds of battle to find some safety and end up at the docks. Many ships are fleeing but there is one getting ready to set sail. A stern-looking tabaxi looks at you and says “Well! Are you coming?”
-Starts Jan. 28, and runs every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
– Looking for 5-6 committed players until the end of April.
-Sessions are $10 and miniatures, 3D terrain, and custom content are provided.

Meet the Candidate- Karl Sporleder, County Commissioner, District 3

WALSENBURG – Karl will host a “Meet the Candidate Karl Sporleder for County Commissioner” event on Saturday, Feb. 5th 4pm at Rollin’ Smoke Garage, 115 E. 5th St, Walsenburg. Karl will discuss his platform and answer guests’ questions. Come share your visions and comments for the future of Huerfano County.
We will also have an added guest Ty Winter who is running is the newly created House District 47.
Karl will also host a ”Meet the Candidate” event on Saturday, Feb. 19th 4pm at Fatt Wellers, 121 N. Main St., La Veta.

American Legion Blood Drive

WALSENBURG – American Legion Blood Drive will be on the 8th of February located in the Huerfano Community Center 928 Russell St. Walsenburg. On the 9th of February in the same building American Legion Post 16 will be holding their monthly meeting at 6p.m. We are hoping to see all of your smiling faces at these two functions.

Fox Walsenburg Chili Competition & Big Game Watch Party

WALSENBURG – On Sunday, February 13th from 3p.m. – 10p.m., there will be a combination Gameday Viewing Party and Chili Cook-off at the Fox Theatre in Walsenburg! The chili competition is a fundraiser for Fox, a 501(c)(3) organization..
One $10 donation will allow you to sample the competition chili and cast your vote for best red, green, and dip/side dish as a People’s Choice Judge.
Winners receive a prize package that includes goodies and awards!

TRINIDAD — Due to high demand, the Huerfano-Las Animas District Health Department has added another day of FREE COVID-19 Community testing in Trinidad. The additional testing day will be on Sundays from 10a.m. – 4p.m. at the Community Center.

Call for artists: Carnegie Library Art Wall

TRINIDAD — The Art Wall at the library has been a bit dormant since the pandemic hit, but with more and more visitors coming to the library, it’s time to remind everyone about this free resource. We have about fifteen linear feet of wall space with a very high ceiling. It’s equipped with a great hanging system. We will provide a custom-designed poster and description cards for the individual pieces. We will also help with promotion via our social media, website and email, and we will notify the local newspapers of your exhibit. There is absolutely no commission or fees of any kind, and sales will be by direct communication between the artist and the buyer. Exhibits are one month long, starting on the first of every month.

to Visit Noah’s Ark

TRINIDAD — Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Association has been selected to be part of the Jordan’s Way 50-state tour to help raise awareness and funds needed for medical needs of Noah’s Ark shelter animals and community programs, such as spay/neuter & low-cost vaccines.
Jordan’s Way is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that hosts 4-hour fun-filled, live Facebook fundraisers at animal rescues and shelters across the country. Founded by Kris Rotonda to honor his best friend, a shelter dog named Jordan, Kris and his team have helped more than 250 shelters in over 40 states raise over $250 million since January. Kris and Jordan’s Way have been featured on The Hallmark Channel, the Dodo, and on local news stations across America. You can learn more about them on their website, www.JordansWayTour.com.
Kris and his team will be visiting Noah’s Ark on Thursday, January 27th from 6p.m. to 10p.m., and everyone in the community is invited to be a part of the fun! The fundraising goal is to raise $15K and to have a ton of fun doing so! That’s where everyone within the Trinidad community can play a HUGE role!

Sharpen your feminist thinking with the Philosopher’s Toolkit

TRINIDAD — Susanne van der Meer is a certified Philosophical Practitioner, MA Continental Philosophy. Philosophical ideas and methods help us to deepen our meaning-making in everyday life. She has been co-hosting a monthly Philosophy Cafe at the Carnegie Public Library in Trinidad for a while now, and beginning on Jan. 27, she will begin hosting a series of four workshops on philosophy and feminism on the Trinidad State Campus in room Berg 401 every other Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m.
This series will cover topics ranging from oppressive thinking hats, autonomy and paternalism to feminist ethics and cultural diversity.

Tetris League at Grandma’s House

TRINIDAD — The grand tradition of TETRIS LEAGUE has come to Trinidad. The first one was amazing, let’s keep it going!
Here’s the breakdown…
Rounds are head-to-head, an eye for an eye, manno-e-manno. Each round lasts 3 minutes (or until a player tops out, which is an automatic loss). Player with the most lines after 3 minutes wins the round. One extra minute overtime if number of lines is tied after 3 minutes.
The version of Tetris we use is the SNES “Tetris & Dr. Mario” release. It has an excellent versus mode. Note that clearing 2-4 lines will add “garbage” to the bottom of your opponent’s screen.
This double elimination bracket style tournament will be Tuesday, Feb. 1. Sign up starts at 6 p.m., blocks fall at 7pm. $5 to enter. First place gets 80% of the pot, second place gets 20%. All ages may enter the tournament, and heckling is highly encouraged!
Wanna practice on the system we use before the big show? Cool! The consoles live at Grandma’s House. You can go anytime. Grab a beer and ask your friendly bartender to hook up the SNES.

Lake activity closed through Jan 31

COLFAX — Sugarite Canyon State Park has suspended lake activities because of thin ice. Both Lake Maloya and Lake Alice are temporarily closed through Jan 31 because of the unsafe conditions. The Lake Alice Campground remains open on a first-come, first-serve basis. For additional information, call 575-445-5607. Stage II Fire Restrictions are also in place. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.

Free Mobile COVID-19 Vaccine Bus

COLFAX — On January 28th from 10a.m. – 6p.m., a mobile Vaccine Bus will be in Raton at the Convention Center at 901 S 3rd St. There will be primary doses and boosters for the Pfizer vaccine available for individuals aged 12+ and primary doses of Pfizer for everyone else.

Casting Call for Bugsy Malone Jr

COLFAX — Santa Fe Trail School for the Performing Arts Raton Youth Theatre is gearing up for a Spring production of Bugsy Malone JR. The show’s Director is Beki Laird, the Musical Director is Clint Henson, and Wanda Henson is assisting both Directors.
Casting call will be held Thursday & Friday, February 3rd & 4th at 6p.m., rehearsal should begin on Monday, February 7th.
Note: Rehearsal &/or production dates subject to change due to COVID restrictions/infection rates, and the entire show will be postponed/canceled if there aren’t enough participants to fill the roles at this time.
The cast list for this show calls for 25-50+ people, so everyone from Kindergarten to College is encouraged to participate –
No previous experience necessary and everyone who comes to the casting call will be in the show if you want to be.
It is a musical, but we are not professional singers & dancers – the goal is to have fun. Don’t be scared!!

Rep. Boebert’s mobile office hours

OUR WORLD – On Monday, Jan. 24, staff from Rep. Lauren Boebert’s office will be available at the La Veta Community Center at 131 E. Ryus Ave from 3-4 p.m. to allow constituents to request assistance with a federal agency, like veterans having trouble with the VA, travelers having difficulties applying for a passport, taxpayers being harassed by the IRS, and senior citizens having issues with Social Security or Medicare. Additionally, constituents are invited to come to the office hours to express their viewpoints on legislative issues and have their voice heard.

WALSENBURG – This Friday, Jan. 21, we will be having a snow storytime. We will have some fun snow activities including making snowmen with pretend snow. LV Playground Initiative meeting

LA VETA — Join us on Sunday, Jan. 23rd from 2-4p.m. at La Veta Community Center at 131 E. Ryus for a public meeting of the La Veta Playground Initiative, a collaboration by the Town of La Veta, La Veta Trails and La Veta Public Library.
Our vision is to engage the community in building a new safe, multi-generational, inclusive playground to meet the needs of residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. We value the community’s input and invite you to attend this public forum.
We are asking for community input to build a new playground with outdoor fitness stations in the La Veta Town Park for all generations! Join Dungeon Master Keith Hershey Jr. and learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons! This class is an introductory D&D class. It covers the basics to help you get started. It teaches you what all the funny-looking dice are for, how to create a character, and gives you a small example of what gameplay is like.

Virtual events to support Fox West

TRINIDAD — The general public is invited to two virtual events in support of the historic Fox West Theatre of Trinidad, Colorado, to be held via Zoom on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. The first event, an information session and community forum, will be hosted by the Fox West Theatre Alliance, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and will include discussion of recent rehabilitation efforts as supported by History Colorado and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. This event will be hosted by Jay Gillespie, a noted entertainer from Trinidad, Colorado.
The second event features Wendy Waszut-Barrett, PhD, of Historic Stage Services, one of the preeminent scholars of historic theatre systems and large-scale artworks used as stage scenery during the early 1900s. This lecture is presented as part of Trinidad State College’s Visiting Artists Lecture Series and will feature a survey of Dr. Barrett’s preservation efforts at the Theatre including the clean-up of pigeon waste and other contaminants from each piece of scenery, drop and curtain with funds provided by the Environmental Protection Agency.
These events will be held via Zoom; participants are encouraged to attend using the links below. Additionally, these meetings will be broadcast via the Fox West Theatre’s YouTube and Facebook pages, where they will be recorded and made available to general public.

OUT OF OUR WORLD – The Missions Chapel and Disaster Relief Distribution Center / America’s Disaster Relief is collecting – gift cards or cash donations for the catastrophic wildfires in Boulder.
From 20 years of experience, we have learned every disaster is different and the location also makes a difference — right now people need cash and gift cards. Their insurance will kick in in a few weeks/months to a small amount – they are at present in shelters being fed and watered, toiletries are being provided. WHAT they really need are clothes and shoes for work – some office work, some blue-collar – but work clothes Children are going to need school clothes & shoes.

Fun Friday Sledding at Cuchara Mountain Park with Moss Adventure

WALSENBURG – The next field trip adventure for Two Peaks Fitness Fun Fridays will be sledding in Cuchara Mountain Park on Jan. 21, 10a.m, – 4p.m., is being sponsored by Moss Adventures. PW Southeast Region Sportsperson’s Caucus to discuss how hunting licenses are allocated

OUR WORLD – Sportspersons from across Colorado are invited to Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Southeast Region Sportsperson’s Caucus for updates on a variety of issues important to hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The featured topic will be allocation of big game hunting licenses.
“CPW is examining its current big game allocation policies,” said CPW Southeast Region Manager Brett Ackerman. “This caucus discussion will be part of our thorough and comprehensive outreach to stakeholders to determine the path forward.”
Ackerman will also provide an update on CPW’s wolf reintroduction efforts and he’ll discuss recent staff changes within the Southeast Region. Also, CPW biologists will provide updates on aquatics and terrestrial sections.
The virtual-only caucus is scheduled 6-8p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022. It will be streamed live, online, via CPW’s statewide Facebook page: www.facebook.com/CoParksWildlife.

Greg and his wife Lisa have walked the ancient pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain two times. TRINIDAD — The City of Trinidad City Council and Las Animas County Commissioners are hosting a joint Legislative Roundtable on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at the Trinidad State College Pioneer Room

Open mic for all literary souls

TRINIDAD — The Corazón de Trinidad Creative District is pleased to announce its inaugural event for 2022; the Second Saturday Series will begin on Jan. 8. An Open Mic for poets and all literary souls, the Series is hosted by the Creative District on the second Saturday of the month at 210 West Main St. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a featured writer; the microphone then opens to all to share their creative literary efforts. This event is free and open to the public.
Kate Kingston, poet, writer and longtime resident of Trinidad will be the featured writer on Jan. 8th. She will read from her most recent series of poems subtitled “In the Time of Covid-19”. In this book she uses personal memoir to chronicle the past year and the experiences we all share. Three of these poems were selected as semi-finalists in the Pablo Neruda Prize and published in Nimrod International Journal.
Marilyn Leuszler, chair of the Creative Districtsays, “Open mics have been held in conjunction with the Creative District’s annual poetry festival and offer an opportunity for community members to read from their work, whether they are professional or beginning writers. Among those taking part in the past are
authors from age 7 to 70 and from professor to cop. “

Purgatoire River Clean-up

TRINIDAD — Join us on Saturday for good times for a good cause along the Purgatoire River! We look forward to seeing you out on the river Saturday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. for a sunny morning along the river, followed by good times and refreshments at Moose’s Pub to keep the ‘Welcome to 2022’ celebration going!
We’ll be meeting at the Safeway parking lot by the flags, and all you need to bring is an enthusiasm for cleaning up your river! You may bring any additional personal protective gear you like, your own water bottle and hat for instance. We bring the rest!
Come enjoy COVID-19 friendly, socially distanced good times along the river – meeting new community members and working together to clean up our river!
At 10 a.m. we’ll hand out supplies, talk COVID-19 safety, and determine a social distancing and small group strategy that feels comfortable for everyone (e.g. small groups no larger than 4-5, with all members of each group working at least 6 feet apart), and start walking the river. You can leave your filled bags along the edge of the Riverwalk, or bring them back to the starting location. The event organizers will check the Riverwalk at the end of the event and collect all bags left along the way.

Legislative Roundtable on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Trinidad State College Pioneer Room

TRINIDAD — CO – The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) deployed a monoclonal antibody treatment bus to Las Animas County as part of efforts to expand access throughout the state to this COVID-19 treatment. The treatment is intended to lessen the risk of serious illness among those newly infected with COVID-19. Patients seeking the treatment will not need a doctor’s referral but will need an appointment.

TRINIDAD — Las Posadas Procession and Celebration-Las Animas County Hispanic Chamber and Southern Colorado Coal Mining Museum will be hosting Las Posadas on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Coal Mining Museum, 219 W. Main Street, Trinidad, CO.
Las Posadas Is a celebration that represents the difficulties that Joseph and Mary, the mother of Jesus, faced in search of a room when traveling to Bethlehem. Groups of children and adults go from house to house singing traditional songs requesting lodging (posada).
We will have live music and go to different businesses on Main Street and Commercial Street ending back at the museum. Annual Firemen’s Toy Drive takes off in Trinidad

TRINIDAD — The annual Trinidad Firemen’s toy Drive is a go again! Applications for the toy drive can be picked up at the utilities department at Trinidad City Hall, 135 N. Animas St; at the Trinidad Department of Human Services, 219 S. Chestnut St; and at the Trinidad Housing Authority, 422 E. First St.
Applications are due back by Dec. 10, and can be mailed to PO Box 900, Trinidad, CO 81082, or dropped off at either fire station, at 1102 Nevada Ave or at 1605 Santa Fe Trail.
Applicants must live inside the city limits of Trinidad to qualify. Pick up of toys will be Dec. 18 from 9am-6pm at 149 E. Main St in Trinidad.

Santa reads in Walsenburg and Trinidad to Fight Cancer!

OUR WORLD —  The good folks over at ROAR for Relay for Life have gotten in touch with Santa this year and have convinced him to come on out to Southern Colorado twice this December to read to and take photos with kids as part of a fundraiser to help fight cancer.
Santa will read Twas the Night Before Christmas and kids can get cookies and hot chocolate, a goodie bag, and a photo with Santa for only $10.
Santa will be in Walsenburg at Colorado Farm Bureau Insurance on Saturday, Dec. 4th from 3-5 p.m.
He will then visit Trinidad on Sunday, Dec. 18th at Corradino Auto Body at 124 N. Maple St. from 3-5 p.m.

Holiday Culinary Celebration

LA VETA — On Saturday, Dec. 4th, from 5-7:30 p.m., there will be a Holiday Culinary Celebration taking place across La Veta! Stroll among 8 galleries and shops in La Veta, enjoying delicious eats accompanied by live seasonal music while providing support for local arts programs!
The La Veta Creative District is taking over managing the annual Holiday Arts Fundraiser. There are several new shops included this year: H’s Place, Marta Moore at the Salon, Crafted in Colorado, and Silver Shoe with a “pop up” shop called Tradition Makers Market joining Shalawalla Batik Studio, SPACe Gallery, La Veta School of the Arts, and Artisans on Main. Each location will have food and liquid refreshments. If you can’t make it, please consider donating to the fundraiser. Money raised goes toward several arts programs in La Veta. It also pays for the signs on Hwy 160 for “Fine Art Galleries”.
Each venue will hold a drawing for a prize of the gallery’s choosing. Tickets are $25 per person and are now available at H’s Place on Main Street, Artisans on Main, SPACe Gallery on Ryus. Tickets can also be purchased on line through the SPACe Gallery web site. There are a limited number of tickets available so please plan to purchase your tickets early.

LA VETA — Huajatolla Heritage Foundation is partnering with the La Veta Creative District in creating an event showcasing several exceptional artists and craftspeople in our community. The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4th at 225 S. Main in La Veta.
Arthur ShortBull, Kate Wootton, Lisa Dasenbrock, Frog Hollow Brooms, Raymond Tenorio (from Santo Domingo Pueblo), the Sandys Squared, Charity, Ava Clark and John Costea will all be sharing their quality handcrafted goods. The Falcon Cheesecake Food Truck will be serving from 10-4. Santa will be around. Michael Rael, talented musician from Questa will provide live music from 3-6. We will also participate in the private party Culinary Celebration from 5-7. Come get the finest in local gifts for everyone on your list.

Huajatolla Heritage Foundation gift drive for Native American youth, elders

LA VETA — Huajatolla Heritage Foundation is once again partnering with the non-profit, One Nation Walking Together to share the bounties of the Holiday season with Native youth and elders. In addition to gifts, your financial help is needed to provide a range of programs, services, and crisis interventions for Native Americans- the most underserved and misrepresented group in the U.S. Indigenous people experience higher levels of poverty, hunger, homelessness, and unemployment than any other demographic.
At the Dec. 4 Traditions Makers’ Market at 225 S. Main in La Veta, we will be collecting new (unwrapped) toys or gifts for both the children and the elders. Although not normally thought of for the holiday season, any cleaning supplies or hygiene items are very much appreciated. (We will not be collecting food, clothing, or household items at this time.) And perhaps even more important, if you would want to make a cash donation, it will be matched the IndieGives program if donated prior to Dec. 31.

4th Annual Holiday Giving Celebration

HUERFANO – Spanish Peaks Business Alliance would like to invite you to the 4th Annual Holiday Giving Celebration! Just like last year, we are hosting this event virtually and donations will be accepted through our website, spba.huerfano.org, starting Dec. 6th. We will host a virtual Mixer on Dec. 14th at 6p.m. with an ugly sweater contest, so gather your friends for a watch party if you fancy!
A full list of participating nonprofits and what they are working on will be available on our website from Dec. 6th through Dec. 14th. You will be able to contribute right from the website and receive a tax deductible receipt from SPBA. We hope you will participate however you are able to this year, even if you just pop in to the online mixer for holiday cheer!

Presentation of Entrepreneurship Action Plan

WALSENBURG –On Monday Dec. 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the County will host a presentation and discussion of the Entrepreneurship Action Plan and Retail Business Incubator Feasibility Analysis. The Meeting will be held in the meeting room of the Huerfano County Community Center, 928 Russell Street.

The county received grant funding from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Lives Empowered program and hired RPI Consulting to assist with this important project. RPI Consulting will present the Entrepreneurship Action Plan and results from the Retail Business Incubator Feasibility Analysis followed by Q&A and group discussion.

Upcoming Pruning Work Sessions for La Veta’s Park & Tree Board
LA VETA — Do you want to learn how to properly prune trees? Do you want to help improve and maintain La Veta’s “urban” forest at the park and along the streets? Please join the PTB members for upcoming pruning work sessions on Dec 7, Dec 14 and Dec 21. We will meet at the Town’s Maintenance Building just west of the Post Office at 8 a.m.

Meeting of American Legion Post 16

WALSENBURG – The American Legion Post 16 is meeting on Dec. 8th at the Huerfano Community Center at 6p.m. Our speaker that evening will be Elizabeth Kelly, an Ombudsman for Nursing Homes in Las Animas / Huerfano counties. The 7th is Pearl Harbor Day please remember and say a prayer. Please wear a mask to the meeting.

LVPL Holiday Cookie and Recipe Exchange
LA VETA — La Veta Public Library is hosting a “tasty” event on Dec. 9th at 2p.m. We are inviting the community to come and share their favorite holiday cookie recipe(s). Ideally, if you bring your favorite cookies, along with the recipe, we can have a cookie exchange! It is so fun to share our favorite recipes and usually there is a great story behind them. Mitzi (known for all her great recipes) will compile them into the beginnings of our Cuchara Valley Recipe Legacy Cookbook and make it available to share. Please come!

Tom Munch Christmas Concert

Trinidad State High School Basketball Tournament is back!

TRINIDAD — The 85th annual Trinidad State Invitational will be held at Scott Gym on Dec. 1, 2, 3 and 4. We have teams coming to play from Trinidad, La Junta, Hoehne, Primero, Kim, Raton, Springer and Des Moines.

Corazón de Trinidad presents the Author Market Place!

TRINIDAD — Following the successful three-month exhibit of Better Angels, The Firefighters of 9/11, the Creative District now brings the AUTHOR MARKET PLACE to Trinidad. On Sat. Dec. 4th from 12-6p.m., local poets and writers will be featured in the Creative District’s Gallery at the Commons, 210 West Main. The event will allow visitors to meet authors and poets, hear them read from current work, have the authors sign books purchased, and quiz them about how and why they do what they do.
Among those featured will be poets Kate Klingston, Michele McDannold, and Hilary Depolo. All authors will be available for a Q&A dialogue regarding the art of writing.

Local authors book signing at Carnegie Public Library

TRINIDAD — The Trinidad Carnegie Public Library is excited to host a book signing for three local authors on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 4th, from 3 – 5 p.m., upstairs in the library’s main room. The authors include Richard Trice from Raton, and Trinidad residents, MaryJo Dawson and Adam Gaffen.
Richard Trice and his wife of 43 years live in Raton where he now spends his time writing music and historical novels. His Trent Carter series follow an aging, disillusioned, and damaged rural detective who often finds his investigations rooted firmly in history. And he talks with ghosts. Adam Gaffen and his family: wife, five kids, five dogs and five cats, recently moved to Trinidad for a change from the long Northeast winters. He is an avid reader and prolific author. His current project is The Cassidy Chronicles, a series of science fiction novels centering on the intriguing adventures of two strong heroines, Aiyana Cassidy and Kendra Foster-Briggs, set in post-modern America.
MaryJo Dawson grew up in the Midwest and practiced as a registered nurse in nine states before moving to Trinidad with her husband. MaryJo’s experiences as a nurse provide the blueprint for female sleuth, Sally Nimitz, the protagonist in her novels. To date, MaryJo has released eight books in the Sally Nimitz Mystery series. Readers of cozy amateur sleuth whodunits will love these stories.

Monoclonoal Antibody Treatment Bus

TRINIDAD — The health department has worked with CDPHE on securing a Monoclonal Antibody Treatment Bus.
The CDPHE monoclonal antibody bus will be located at 412 Benedicta Ave, Trinidad, CO 81082 during the following dates and times:
Wednesday, Dec. 1 – Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m.. to 4 p.m. and
Monday, Dec. 6 – Saturday, Dec. 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Depending on local case rates and other factors, this period may be extended, but we are currently scheduling two weeks at a time.

RATON — Raton Fire & emergency Services is teaming up with Raton Team Builders to gather names of children ages Newborn to 17 to have toys delivered to them.
To add a name to the list, call Raton Team Builders at 575-383-2065. The Cutoff for names to be placed on the list is Dec. 8th, and delivery will begin the week of Dec. 20th.
