TRINIDAD — For the past two years, Carnegie Public Library in Trinidad has helped local artists shine by showcasing their pieces of art at the library every month as part of their Community Art Project.

“We try to showcase local artists who produce works of art on our walls at the library it is a fun way to show off the talented people we have in our community,” Carnegie Public Library Director Mallory Pillard said about the works of art features each month at the library. “We take all skill levels. This type of project is common in other libraries, and the showcase of art is open for everyone to see.

Local amateur artist Joe Bonato’s pieces of art were recently featured on the walls of the library. His daughter, Mary Jo Bonato, asked him if he would be interested in putting up some of his art for the public to see. “We go to the library all the time, and I thought it would be great if my dad’s art could be part of the great local program,” Mary Jo added.

Joe Bonato has been working on his hobbies for 13-years as a way to relax and get rid of stress. “I have found enjoyment and relaxation in painting circle canvas,”Joe Bonato said with a big smile, “I have painted everything from coal mining scenes to Fisher’s Peak. I have worked on about 48 pieces. It usually takes me about a month or two, depending on time, to start and complete a piece. I have taught myself; no art classes taken here. I am no pro, but I really enjoy this hobby. I would really like to thank Mr. Tom Potter and Mrs. Mallory Pillard for letting me have my art down here.”
