HUERFANO —I, Carmen J. Lara, do announce my candidacy for the Office of Director of the Huerfano County Hospital District Board.

I am a long time resident of Walsenburg and care about Huerfano County. I attended and worked at TSJC and worked towards my Masters in Biology, medicine/research emphasis at CSU-Pueblo. I’ve worked a variety of jobs here, in Denver and Trinidad, usually in positions of “service to others.” I’ve volunteered at the SPVCLC, Green Leaf flood mitigation and Team Rubicon and was an Historical Society member and board member at Spanish Peaks Library District. Currently, I volunteer at four food pantries, Sangre de Cristo Hospice, Friends of the Library and deliver “Meals on Wheels.” I attend City Council meetings regularly.

We need to ensure the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center (SPVCLC), Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center (SPRHC), Swing Bed Center, and Family, Outreach and Specialty clinics all remain open. And we especially need the doctors, nurses, CNA’s and all employees, who work very hard to keep our residents and patients healthy and happy.

The SPVCLC is self sufficient and should be separate from the others. This center provides a home for our veterans, their spouses and Gold Star Parents. The residents pay large amounts of money to stay at the SPVCLC each month and this money should be used to provide exceptional care and quality of life. Their sacrifices have given American’s and others, a chance to live a better life than most!

We need all the services that are being provided, and people need to be assured they will receive the best care. I will work hard to ensure that the SPVCLC, SPRHC and the Swing Bed center and clinics are kept running well and are self sufficient.

Please vote May 5, and let your voices be heard!
