Careers in Healthcare Week highlights employment resources

DENVER — Gov. John Hickenlooper has declared the week of April 4 as Careers In Healthcare Week. The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is participating in the focus on healthcare by helping to educate Coloradans about the need for a strong workforce for the industry. Healthcare is an industry expected to expand in the coming years and has a strong need for new employees. A cornerstone of the Careers in Healthcare Week campaign is to educate students about the possibilities the industry offers and to ensure that the talent pipeline for skilled medical workers remains in place. A rewarding career in the industry can encompass a wide range of occupations. Careers in Healthcare Week runs from April 4 – 8 with the introduction of a new page of its website designed to increase public awareness of the diverse careers in the medical profession. The website, www.colorado.gov/cdle/healthcare-careers is a way to peruse current job listings posted at state and county employment offices statewide. The site serves as companion pieces to three additional sites. Used together, they become a kind of healthcare careers toolkit. The other three sites include: LMI Gateway (www.colmigateway.com), where students and job seekers can explore healthcare careers and match skills with occupations. College in Colorado (www.collegeincolorado.org) was initiated by the Department of Higher Education and helps Coloradans break down barriers to postsecondary degrees and create a plan for success. The website offers a one-stop resource to help students and parents plan, apply and pay for college. Connecting Colorado (www.connectingcolorado.com) is the state’s largest online job board run by the Department of Labor and Employment. It connects job seekers with employers and to Workforce Centers where they can get the necessary education and credentials for well- paying healthcare jobs.
