TRINIDAD — The Trinidad Triggers opened up an early lead against the Great Bend Boom to take a 19-4 victory on Monday at Central Park. It was the first game in a double header against the expansion Boom. It was also Trinidad’s first time the two teams met.
Fifteen runs in the first three innings allowed the Triggers to put the game away early. A two-run home run by Brian Frazier during the first inning and a two-run single by Eric Brothers, an RBI single by Edmund Cheatham, a three-run single by Trevor Sealey, and a single by Eric Williams in the second inning supplied the early offense for Trinidad. Sealey racked up three RBIs on four hits and Brothers improved to 2-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Triggers, allowing four runs over six innings. Brothers struck out one, walked three and gave up five hits. The Triggers pounded Great Bend pitching, as eight hitters combined for 17 hits, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
In the second game of the double header, Trinidad opened up an early lead on the Boom, capturing a 13-2 victory. Trinidad dominated early with seven runs in the first three innings. During the second inning Trevor Sealy helped the Triggers put some early runs on the board. Brian Frazier racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Triggers. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the fifth. Christian Schneider allowed one earned run, five hits, and one walk while striking out three over six innings of work.
The next day the Triggers faced the Boom in another double header. Trinidad lost the first, 4-2, and won the second 10-6. This series ended a Trigger nine day home stand. They will be on the road next week. Trinidad has a 21-14 record going into the next week’s games.
