by David Tesitor

HUERFANO, LAS ANIMAS COUNTIES — As the baseball and track seasons are in full force this week, area athletes are preparing for track events this weekend and baseball games slated for Saturday.

The John Mall Panthers, who already played their first game Tuesday against Crowley County, will be at home on the March 19 against Cripple Creek with the first pitch at 11 am.

Trinidad will have three games in a tournament this weekend at the Runyon Field Sports Complex, beginning on Friday playing Arvada at 4:30, then again later that night against Pueblo County at 7:30. They will play Rye on Saturday at 4:30. On Tuesday, they will play at Taos.

The Primero Bulldogs will be in Sargent tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.

The track teams will be running this weekend. The John Mall Panthers, Primero Bulldogs, and Aguilar Wildcats will be at the Center Invitational tomorrow. Hoehne and John Mall already saw action last weekend. Trinidad, Walsenburg, Hoehne, Aguilar, and La Veta will participate in the La Junta Open on March 24.

The World Journal will post the coming week schedules in our area brief section on a weekly basis as schedules may change with our unpredictable spring weather.
