3A Trinidad Lady Miners to state

LAKEWOOD — Trinidad Miner Casey LaFon (Sr.) was the lone member of the Trinidad Miners team to qualify in an individual event at State. She held on to her position as #18 Shot with a heave of 33-4.75 ft., qualifying by two inches.

Four Miner relay teams qualified for state and will represent the Trinidad today in the preliminary action. The THS 4X100 relay team qualified for state at the Canyon City Blossom with a team season-record time of 52.89 seconds, to move into the #13 space. They placed 2nd at the Tri-Peaks meet last weekend. The 4X200 team Relay team also qualified at the #16 slot in a time of 1:52.22 seconds, just .60 from not qualifying. The Miners also qualified in the 800 Sprint Medley Relay at the Tri-Peaks as they placed 2nd. They improved their time to 1:57.40 to give them a tie for 17th and a berth at state. All three teams consist of Cameron Gomez, Kora Griffith, Jesslyn Guzzo, and Frida Ochoa.

The 4X400 relay team also qualified based on their performance at the Tri-Peaks meet. Their time of 4:21.57 put them in 14th position. The4X400 relay team consists of Shaylynn Choate, Isabella Cordova, Gabriela Peraza, and Jamie Vallejos. No members of the boys’ team qualified.
