Welcome to the Huerfano County 4-H Fair
HUERFANO COUNTY — Hello! We are the 2016-2017 Huerfano County 4-H Senior and Junior Ambassadors and we would like to invite you to the 79th annual Huerfano County 4-H Fair and Livestock sale which will take place August 10-14, 2016.
As the ambassadors it’s our job to promote 4-H and the 4-H program such as our county fair by putting up flyers in the communities of Walsenburg, La Veta and the surrounding areas, inviting everyone to come on out and join us for the upcoming fair and support all the 4-H kids and their projects. We also did a radio spot with KSPK to promote the fair this year, and we attended the County Commissioner meeting where we personally invited the commissioners to the county fair.
This year fair kicks off on Wednesday August 10, 2016 in La Veta at the 4-H grounds with the 4-H general, home economics and open class projects being checked in and judging at 9AM. The 4-H fashion review will begin at 4PM at the 4-H barn. After the fashion review the 4-H Council will host a Barbeque at 6PM for all the 4-H members and their family and we will end the day with a 4-H member and family fun night.
Thursday August 11 we will begin our day with the rabbit show at 8AM, then the poultry show will follow. After the poultry show we will then move on the all-round small animal showmanship and then the dog show. We will then begin our afternoon with the sheep show at 1PM followed by the goat show. If you can’t make it out to she shows don’t worry come on over for the Ag Coalition Appreciation Dinner beginning at 4:30PM and then finish out the day by watching the swine show at 6:30PM.
On Friday August 12 we will begin our day with a breakfast hosted by the La Veta FFA chapter from 7-10AM. Once you’ve had a wonderful breakfast head on down to the rodeo arena for the 4-H horse show beginning at 10AM. Friday night come on out at watch the gymkhana down at the rodeo arena beginning at 5PM with the grand entry.
On Saturday August 13 we will start our day off with the beef show at 9AM and then the Round Robin Showmanship competition beginning at 1PM. At 4PM all the 4-H general, home economics and open class exhibits must be out of the barn so we can begin setting up for the annual buyer’s dinner on Sunday. Our evening events for this day will begin at 5PM in the rodeo arena with a horse shoe tournament, volleyball, dancing and much much more.
On Sunday August 14 our fair will come to a close with cowboy church at the rodeo arena at 10AM weather permitting. Then at 11:30 we will host our annual Buyers Barbeque Dinner with the food being prepared by the Huerfano County 4-H Fair Board and 4-H volunteers. Once you’ve had a great lunch with old friends head on into the livestock barn and prepare for the livestock sale which will begin at 2PM.
