With a whirl and a twirl, Oberheu bows out for the final time

blushing bride Todd Oberheu

WALSENBURG — Say what you will, but Todd Oberheu knows how to make a dramatic exit.

Oberheu, the CEO of Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center, is leaving the facility after eight years, and moving to Ruidoso, New Mexico for another job in the medical field.

The SPRHC is connected to the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, and every year a ‘Mr. Relay Beauty Pageant’ is held there, consisting of male staffers in drag who raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

Oberheu, who has in the past appeared in lingerie of various sizes, colors and levels of quasi-risqué naughtiness, pulled out all the stops on Thursday, June 2. He was escorted out onto the ‘ballroom floor’ by Huerfano County Hospital District Board Chairman Bill Hix. Hix came out all dolled up in a tuxedo, and hanging on his arm, was the blushing Oberheu attired in a full wedding gown.

Oberheu then proceeded to dance and twirl among the hysterical audience, holding a urinal out for people to stuff money into.

The beauty pageant will go on in other years, but the likes of Todd Oberheu will not be seen again. Good luck, Todd. We will all miss you.
