sOUtheRN COLORaDO — Pueblo County is developing an Electric Vehicle (EV) Readiness Plan that will identify key partnerships and actionable strategies that will help the county prepare for EVs and make EV adoption easy and affordable. We are circulating an EV survey right now throughout southern Colorado.
Pueblo County received DOLA funds to pursue an EV Readiness Plan, and this survey is the first stage. We are looking for all Southern Colorado residents to complete this survey – not just Pueblo County. Mental Health Colorado to host online candidate forums
DeNVeR — As a nonpartisan organization, Mental Health Colorado doesn’t endorse candidates, but the nonprofit advocacy group is educating candidates and constituents from all parties about the urgency of supporting healthier minds across the lifespan for all Coloradans. Mental Health Colorado will host a series of candidate forums ahead of election day with
one goal: ensuring all Colorado voters are confident that anyone they are voting for will lead us in the right direction on mental health.
During each forum, Mental Health Colorado will ask candidates questions about what’s at stake for mental health in this election, why voting down the ballot matters for mental health, and what supporting improved mental health across the lifespan looks like from the perspective of the office they seek.The dates for the forums are as follows:

District Attorney and Board of Education – Tuesday, Oct. 13, 12 p.m.

A New Meat School coming to a town or computer near you!
OUR WORLD — Are you interested in learning more about production, processing and selling high quality meat through diverse market channels? Would you like new ways to manage risk in your livestock business and improve your profitability? If the answers are yes, then you’ll want to check out the Western Meat School.
The Niche Meat Processor Assistance Network (NMPAN), an Extension program housed at Oregon State University, is collaborating with Colorado State University and other institutions to offer this 6-week class. Funded by Western Extension Risk Management Education grants and the Globetrotter Foundation, the Western Meat School is an accessible and af- fordable way for farmers and ranchers to learn the most practical aspects of producing and marketing meat while deepening their understanding of the full niche meat supply chain. You can attend classes at one of 4 sites in Colorado: Montrose, Rocky Ford, Pueblo or Colorado Springs, or from your own home computer.
All speakers will be brought to you via the Zoom webinar platform. Classes cover marketing, production, and process- ing topics – all critical for direct marketing high-quality meat. Classes will also include a live beef animal evaluation and yield analysis demonstration with Nathan Parker of the Oregon State University Clark Meat Science Center, and similar “hoof to rail” demonstrations on pig and lamb carcasses at the University of Wyoming Meat Lab. Participants will receive a text and gain access to a resource guide, recorded videos, and optional add-on modules, one on hogs (breeds, forages and finishing) and another on meat pricing.
Registration is open now, the deadline to enroll is October 28th. Classes begin on November 4th and run every Wednesday evening through December 16th (skipping Thanksgiving week). Time is running out to respond to the 2020 Census
OUR WORLD — Don’t miss your chance to get counted in the 2020 Census. Households that have not been counted are encouraged to respond today, as time is running out.
Census takers in Colorado are currently following up with households that have not yet responded – and it’s making a difference. More than 96% of Colorado housing units have been accounted for so far. We urge Coloradans to cooperate with census takers to make sure everyone living their household as of April 1, 2020, is counted.
It has never been easier to respond on your own, whether online, over the phone or by mail — all without having to meet a census taker. This is the first year the census has been con- ducted primarily online, which has helped with responses during the pandemic.
Census takers can be easily identified by a valid government ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date on the badge.
The Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are working together to protect the health and safety of the public and our employees. Census takers are trained to follow CDC recommendations.

These are out and back runs from the Grandote Peaks Club- house. The half marathon, a RABA Cinco event, is along the scenic Highway of Legends (CO State Hwy 12), while the fun run is within Grandote Peaks. Start times are staggered to pro- mote social distancing. WaLseNBURg — Join Cruisin’ Pueblo for a casual, fun bicycle ride in Walsenburg Saturday, Oct. 3, 9:30 a.m.. We will be riding from the Welcome Center to Lathrop State Park, around the park and back.
Meet at the Spanish Peaks Country Welcome Center in Walsenburg, 400 Main St (the old train station with a Red Caboose) at 9:30 am. We will roll out at 9:50 a.m. This ride is about 12 miles with an optional 2 miles if the group feels up to it.
Gravel bikes, fat tire bikes, or mountain bikes are recommended over skinny road bike tires since the country road is gravel. Estimated time of return to the Welcome Center will be 12:00 pm.
There will be 2 rest stops with water and bathrooms avail- able. Food and beverages are optional afterward at Rollin’ Smoke Garage BBQ. This will be a free, moderate paced – no one left behind ride.
Masks highly suggested for the rest stops. Helmets and water are also a good idea. Don’t forget some money if you want to partake after the ride

Our clinic in Walsenburg is hosting a Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Spanish Peaks Outreach and Women’s Clinic, 129 Kansas Avenue for those 65 and older (FluZone – High Dose). That’s right, you won’t even need to get out of your car to get this important vaccine and a friend can drive you if you wish.
In order to expedite the flow of the Drive-Thru clinic please adhere to the following:
• Bring and wear a mask (everyone in the vehicle must be wearing a mask)
• Only those receiving the vaccine should be in the vehicle
• Bring your own pen
• Wear short sleeves
• Position yourself in the vehicle so that the desired arm to receive the shot is closest to a window
• Bring photocopies of your insurance card (front and back please)
• Stay in the vehicle at all times
• Plan to park for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine to monitor for reactions

La Veta — The Spanish Peaks Arts Council invites everyone to the Fall Show, with featured artists Rebecca Meyers, Hugh Keating and Carrie Fox now through Oct. 3. Due to Health Dept. requirements, only 10 people at a time are allowed inside, face coverings, and social distancing are required, so no refreshments.
Rebecca Meyers is showing an amazing collection of Native American and African cultures’ masks, created from clay and re-purposed materials. Along the same lines, Gary Weston has new fantastical works also from re-purposed materials. Hugh Keating is showing some of his crayon and acrylic works featuring loosely rendered architectural scenes on canvas, and Carrie Fox has included contemporary embroidery and photography “sketches” inspired by the rivers and wildlife in Huerfano and Las Animas counties. Survival is Insufficient – call to artists
tRiNiDaD — The Corazón de Trinidad Creative District invites all artists and creatives in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico to submit their work to an online multimedia salon, focusing upon the theme: “Survival is Insufficient.” Participants will share how they have continued to be creative during the pandemic. Featured works will include pieces that are thematically connected to artists’ experiences and insights related to the pandemic, as well as other works completed as they have carried on with their lives.
People working in all media, including crafts, music, writ- ing, performance arts, quilting, dance, painting, happenings, printmaking or any other creative medium are invited to participate.
Works submitted should be done during the pandemic. As a salon, works represented will reflect experiences during this unique and challenging season. Original work only. This multimedia salon will include visual, musical, literary and performance pieces, with images or self-produced YouTube videos.
This salon will take place on the Creative District website. The salon may be accessed through the Corazón de Trinidad Creative District website www.corazondetrinidad.org, or through the Creative District Facebook page beginning Tuesday, September 22.

RatON — The Raton Regional Recycling Hub Facility, Armex Building, 420 East 4th Ave. is currently limited to the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on an as-needed basis for large loads of materials (call 575-445-9181). We are working on acquiring collection trailers, which are expected to be spread around the area and be available for daily deposits of materials.

Pueblo Historical Ghost Walk
PUeBLO — Enjoy storytelling of Pueblo’s past Friday, Oct. 2, 5:30 p.m. This tour begins at El Pueblo History Museum and travels through town ending at the Heritage Museum. You will meet 10 “ghosts” of Pueblo’s past along the way. The walk typically lasts one and a half hours and benefits the Domestic Violence Task Force in association with the Sheriff’s office
