Lady Redskins still going strong!

LA VETA — The Lady Redskins volleyball team held on to their winning streak through several games this past week, traveling to both Mountain Valley and Hanover.
In Thursday’s game against Mountain Valley, the varsity girls stood their ground winning the game in three matches, 25-15, 25-7, 25-11.
Friday’s game against Hanover brought a lot of excitement as the JV took the court first, winning their game in two matches, 25-16, 25-19. The varsity girls then took the court proving their strengths once again as they won against Hanover in three matches, 25-9, 25-15, 25-12.
One might think that come time for Saturday’s home game, the girls would be exhausted. Well all that playing and traveling didn’t affect the girls’ playing ability at all.
What was supposed to be a Tri-meet between Creede, Primero, and La Veta turned into just a game between Primero and La Veta when Creede had to forfeit due to injuries and the lack of eligible players for their team.
The JV girls took the court for the first time at their own gym showing they have just as much talent as the upper classman. The girls took the Bulldogs down in two matches, 25-12, 25-9. There were some serious hits by #9 Grace Brunner, #12 Ashley McCay, and #15 Gabbi Lopez, all contributing to their victory.
When the varsity girls took the court – you guessed it – they sent the Bulldogs back to Primero licking their wounds as the girls took them down in three, 25-10, 25-16, and 25-18.
Coach Utley was quick to compliment her team. She was very pleased with the way all her girls are playing. Utley said ” we have some great talents with excellent passes by Rebecca Uebler, perfect setting by Renee Trujillo and Brenna Ray playing great at the net.” Utley continued by saying, “how lucky we are to have the ability to play the bench and still have a huge contribution to the game.” We also saw some great blocks and spikes from La Veta’s #11 Brandaise Martinez.
La Veta will host Sargent on Saturday the 21st with all the Lady Redskins – jr. high, JV, and varsity – playing. If you want the chance to watch and support these great girls, this would be a perfect game to attend.
